What is Spicy Edamame?
Spicy edamame is a popular Japanese side dish made from young, green soybeans. The beans are steamed, then tossed in a spicy seasoning blend, typically including chilli pepper, garlic, and soy sauce. Edamame beans are native to Japan and are rich in protein, fibre, and essential nutrients. They are enjoyed as a healthy, flavourful snack or appetiser.
Edamame is farmed in the Kanto region, in the Ibaraki, Tochigi and Gunma prefectures where the crops benefit from a suitable climate and fertile soil, producing highly nutritious crops.
Why do People Love Spicy Edamame?
Edamame is a popular side dish or snack due to its unique combination of nutty and sweet flavours with an extra kick of spiciness. It is a fantastic and healthy snack alternative to junk food that people just can't get enough of.
Their nutritional value includes many staples to a good diet, including protein, fibre, and essential minerals. Its interactive nature of popping the beans out of the pods adds to the enjoyment, making it a social and fun snack to share with others, especially when trying to pop them with your chopsticks.
How is Spicy Edamame Traditionally Served and Eaten?
Spicy Edamame is served in small bowls with steamed pods. Simply Pop the beans into your mouth with your fingers, try not to double-dipping in sauces, and discard empty shells. Always offer to share the beans when they are placed in front of you. Eat at a moderate pace to ensure others receive a fair share, and pop them with care to avoid popping them into someone's eye or clothing, though that is always good for a laugh at a casual gathering.

Take the pan off the heat to add butter, garlic and chillies, return to the heat and continue to stir to avoid burning them.
